PITTSBURGH, PA — Penn Fixture & Supply, Pittsburgh’s go-to source for commercial kitchen equipment and supplies since 1951, has begun renovations on its future home at 5850 Forward Avenue in Squirrel Hill. The new space, in the former Lord Duncan building, will feature a modern, fully-stocked showroom offering literally everything a restaurant could need… except the food.
From ovens, fryers, and refrigeration to cookware, utensils, furniture, and smallwares, Penn Fixture’s new location will showcase it all under one roof. The store will remain open to the public, giving chefs, foodservice operators, and passionate home cooks access to professional-grade tools and equipment. Customers can continue to expect the company’s hallmark service, with convenient pickup options and reliable delivery available throughout the region.
Located less than a mile off I-376, the new showroom offers easy access from Downtown Pittsburgh, the Strip District, McKnight Road, Monroeville, and surrounding communities, making it a central hub for the region’s hospitality industry.
“This is going to be a destination for anyone who cooks professionally, or just loves cooking,” said Ken Zeff, owner of Penn Fixture & Supply. “We’re excited to bring an even better shopping experience to Pittsburgh while keeping our roots in the city we’ve always called home.”
The redevelopment is being led by Brandywine Communities, with a history of projects that enhance the Squirrel Hill Business District and preserve neighborhood character. Their work includes restoring the historic Rosen Drug Building at the corner of Forbes and Shady Avenues, creating an urban parklet at Beacon and Murray, and designing the squirrel-shaped bike racks found throughout the community.
“On Forward Avenue, Brandywine has helped attract new businesses like Scrimshaw Media, Hilt & Helm Fencing Club, and community services provider JFCS, which opened its UpStreet Youth Services program in the former Forward Lanes site,” said Jamison Juda-Combs, Director of Marketing at Brandywine Communities. “Penn Fixture’s arrival marks another step in the corridor’s growth. We’re excited to welcome a family-owned small business to Squirrel Hill.”
Renovations began last week, with the iconic A-frame façade preserved as a nod to the building’s history, while the interior is being completely reimagined for a modern, hands-on shopping experience. The new showroom is expected to open in late 2025.
